Cut the Cost of Remodeling
Refinish • Repair • Revitalize
The refinishing process involves (in the case of ceramic tile, bathtubs or sinks) an acid treatment which etches the surface. This is followed by the application of a bonding primer which bonds the etched surface. The technician will use a turbine running at approximately 130 degrees attached to an H.V.L.P. (high velocity-low pressure) air spray to apply 3 to 4 applications of an aliphatic urethane resin. This creates a synthetic porcelain finish which can be used after 48 hours. Grout lines, although visible, are sealed so mildew is virtually eliminated and cleaning is much easier. Most customers look for a white or almond (bone) finish but custom colors can be mixed where required.
While the work is being done there is some chemical odor but we use a lemon essence to reduce this and in addition we use an air exhaust system which kicks out 1400 cu.ft. per minute. Any residual odors would remain for about 6 hours.
We mask and tape all surrounding areas and where possible we remove these before leaving the job but if there is a possibility of damaging the finish we will leave masking in place and the customer can remove after 24 hours. We also remove overflow and where possible the drain cover from bathtubs but these cannot be replaced by the technician as the job is still wet when he leaves.
If it is not possible for a customer to remove masking paper and tape and replace fixtures and we are asked to return to do this there will be a $25 charge.
Before refinishing work is done our technician would repair any cracks in the tile and charges for this would normally be included in the estimate.
If grout is worn and grooved this should be leveled up to the tile surface at least 3 to 4 days prior to refinishing. There are grout companies available to do this or customers may prefer to do this themselves.
